A Damaged Hydraulic Cylinder Component  Case Studies

Project Summary:

When a specialized hydraulic component is severely damaged, replacing the entire assembly can be costly and time-consuming, particularly when replacement components are difficult to source.

This case study shows how US Hydraulics used fabrication, welding, and precision machining to rebuild a damaged cylinder component and prepare it for continued service.

Damaged base mount removed in preparation for fabrication and repair.

The Challenge:

A hydraulic cylinder arrived with extensive wear and damage to the base mount. The challenge was to rebuild the affected section while preserving the critical dimensions and fit required for its application.

The Solution:

After removing the damaged mount, the team fabricated a replacement section to match the original design requirements. The new section was fitted and structurally welded to the existing cylinder before being machined to final dimensions for proper alignment and fit.

The work drew on several in-house capabilities:

  • Custom fabrication
  • Precision machining
  • Structural welding
  • Reverse engineering
  • Hydraulic component repair

Newly fabricated mount welded into the existing cylinder prior to final machining.

Finished cylinder after final machining, ready for reinstallation and continued service.

The Result:

The rebuilt cylinder was returned to service-ready condition, avoiding replacement of the full assembly. The finished repair demonstrates how targeted fabrication, welding, and machining can restore heavily damaged components and preserve otherwise serviceable equipment.

Why It Matters

Not every damaged component requires complete replacement. For customers facing worn, obsolete, or hard-to-source components, a tailored repair can provide another path forward.

US Hydraulics evaluates the condition and requirements of each component to determine whether rebuilding, fabrication, or machining can restore functionality and extend service life. By combining these capabilities under one roof, we help customers maintain critical equipment when replacement is not the most practical option.
